Well I fell in, into a bottomless pit
When I got to the bottom I could swear that this was it
Looked all around and down and up at the sky
But the sky was gone and I couldn’t figure out why

So I crawled all around on the floor looking for a door
But then I came to the edge and dropped over and fell in some more
And in my falling I slipped down into a dream
I was lying in a bed where nothing was quite as it seemed

The lights shined black and the dog walked across the ceiling
And the cat sang me a song that was so full of meaning
And the world was a swirl of empty desert and ocean
And no matter what I tried I couldn’t stop the motion

So I curled all up and I tucked myself into a ball
And I bounced off the walls until I landed inside a hall
Well the hall was a place where I could set off in any direction
So I stepped into space and then I was falling again

And as I fell I sank further into the void
Well the void was like a shroud and left me feeling unmoored
I was quite at a loss as to how I would ever climb out
And I couldn’t understand what all the sinking was really about

So I reached out to grab on and cling to a piece of the wall
But nothing I did could really stop me or break my fall
And as gravity pulled I kept going down faster and faster
If I didn’t ease up I was sure it would end in disaster

So I learned to let go and relax and just live in the moment
Shined a light in the darkness and gave thanks for not hitting the pavement
Raised my arms up to God or whoever had started me falling
Dropped on down to my knees and with grace I accepted my calling

Yeah I fell in, into a bottomless pit
Was the strangest sensation but I didn’t mind it a bit
I fell in, into a bottomless pit
Was the loveliest place once I got used to it
Well I fell in, into a bottomless pit
Was a nice empty space, my bottomless pit
Yeah I fell in, into my bottomless pit
A place to call home, my bottomless pit
